Ask five tailors on the same Bangkok street for a custom suit cost and you will get five different numbers, because “suit” is doing a lot of work in that sentence. The honest answer is a range, and what moves you within it.
What the price actually covers
A quote should separate cloth from construction. Mill-direct wool typically runs from roughly ฿2,000 to ฿4,000 per metre depending on weight and mill, with two to two and a half metres needed for a jacket and trouser combination. Construction — the cutting, canvassing, and stitching labour — is the second half of the number, and it is where corners get cut on cheap quotes: fused canvas instead of floating, machine buttonholes instead of hand-worked.
Typical ranges for a custom suit cost in Bangkok
Made-to-measure two-piece suits in mill-direct wool generally land between ฿15,000 and ฿30,000 all in. Full bespoke, with its extra fitting and hand-finished construction, runs from ฿28,000 upward. Cashmere coating, Thai silk, and remnant-priced cloth all move the number in either direction — a length bought from a discounted remnant roll can bring a full bespoke jacket in well under its usual price.
The red flag
A same-day suit quoted at a fraction of these numbers is being fused, not canvassed, and cut from a stock pattern with no real fitting. It will look fine in the shop mirror and lose its shape within a season.
What drives the price up or down
Beyond cloth and construction, extras like working cuff buttonholes, a half-canvas versus full-canvas build, and hand-padded lapels each add to the final custom suit cost. None of these are essential for a good result, but a transparent tailor will itemise them rather than folding them silently into a single number.
Getting a like-for-like comparison
When comparing quotes across shops, ask each for the same breakdown: cloth cost per metre, mill name, canvas type, and number of fittings included. Two quotes that look far apart on the surface often turn out to be pricing entirely different products.
Check current cloth pricing directly in the shop, or ask for a full quote when you book a fitting.
