Red flags
Being approached on the street with an unsolicited suit offer is the clearest warning sign in the city — legitimate tailors do not need to hustle tourists outside their own door. Pressure to decide and pay a large deposit within the same visit is another; a shop confident in its own work lets you take a night to think it over. So is a quote with no separation between cloth cost and labour cost, which makes it impossible to tell what you are actually paying for.
What a legitimate bench looks like
Rolls of cloth on the premises, not just a catalogue of photos. A cutter who asks about your posture and how the garment will be worn, not just your chest measurement. A clear two-fitting process with a real gap between appointments. And pricing that separates cloth per metre from construction, so a discount on one doesn’t quietly hide a cut corner in the other.
Check before you book
Google reviews with real detail — not just star counts — and a shop that is happy to show you construction in progress are both good signs. So is a bench that will happily explain, unprompted, the difference between fused and canvassed construction.

Verify the shop address on a map before you go, ask for an itemised quote, confirm the number of fittings in writing, and request the mill name for any cloth you’re considering. None of this takes more than a few extra minutes, and it filters out the majority of commission-driven operators before you’ve spent a baht.
